Reflections

Eager reader of history, mystery, classics, biographies, steampunk, lit fic, science, scifi, and etc. My reviews are mostly positive--I rarely finish or write about books I don't enjoy. My TBR is too high for that.

On the Grid: A Plot of Land, an Average Neighborhood, and the Systems That Make Our World Work

On the Grid: A Plot of Land, An Average Neighborhood, and the Systems that Make Our World Work - Scott Huler This book is fascinating, and my daughter agrees because she keeps borrowing it from me and citing interesting facts about our infrastructure. My favorite part is the chapter about communication--telegraphs, radio, TV, the internet, etc though the section where he was hiking around inside huge underground water pipes, looking up at cars through the manholes was exciting too. Anyone living in Raleigh should really love this book--he generalizes the information and history, but his explorations are all in his hometown of Raleigh.
